Aulia Izzah Azmi

Analyst, Climate Programme

Aulia contributes to research and programme implementation on climate justice, environmental rights, and social inequality through an intersectional, feminist, and human rights–based lens at GSHR. As a Climate Programme Analyst, she supports the design and delivery of initiatives addressing climate justice and environmental governance, with particular attention to how climate change intersects with gender, sexuality, and human rights. Her work focuses on gender and disaster management, amplifying the importance of women in urban margins through mental mapping and policy studies.

Alongside her work at GSHR, Aulia serves as an Associate Researcher at Women Crisis Center Perempuan Nusantara, where she contributes to evidence-building efforts on gender-based violence, women’s rights, and access to justice. Her responsibilities include conducting qualitative and quantitative research, designing interdisciplinary feminist research methodologies, producing policy-relevant knowledge products, and representing the organisation at academic and professional conferences. Her work emphasises ethical data governance and translating field-based realities into scholarly knowledge to support policy advocacy.

Aulia has also held international research roles, including as a Research Fellow at Kyoto University, where she conducted independent research on the co-production of knowledge among urban farming communities. Her research explored how local wisdom, collaborative practices, and scientific knowledge intersect to support sustainable urban agriculture, food security, and urban resilience. Previously, she worked as a Research Assistant at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, supporting comparative research on socio-technical perspectives of green incineration and waste-to-energy policies in Indonesia and Japan, including stakeholder mapping and qualitative research design.

She holds a Master’s degree in Sociology at Universitas Indonesia. Her academic and professional interests centre on climate justice, feminist research, humanitarianism, and climate security within international and local governance contexts.
